Statement of Faith
1. The Bible
The Holy Scripture alone is inerrant, is sufficient, is inspired by God, is our sole source of authority, is complete in its fullness, and is the infallible rule of all saving knowledge, faith, and obedience (2 Timothy 3:15-17; Luke 16:29-31; Romans 1:19-21, 15:4; Hebrews 1:1-8; 2 Peter 1:20-21; Revelation 22:18-19).
Under the name of Holy Scripture are contained all the books of the Old and New Testaments, which are these:

The authority of the Holy Scripture depends not upon the testimony of any man or church, but wholly upon God, Who is Truth, the Author of Scripture; therefore, it is to be received because it is the Word of God (2 Peter 1:19-21; 2 Timothy 3:16; 1 Thessalonians 2:13; 1 John 5:9).
The infallible rule of the interpretation of Scripture is the Scripture itself; and therefore, when there is a question about the true and full sense of any Scripture (which is not many meanings, but one), it must be examined by other Scripture (2 Peter 1:20, 21; Acts 15:15, 16).
There is only one God (Deuteronomy 6:4), the Creator of heaven and earth (Genesis 1:1-2; John 1:1-3), who manifests Himself in three distinct Persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit (Genesis 1:26; Matthew 3:16-17, 28:19; Hebrews 1:8; 1 Peter 1:2). The attributes of God include but are not limited to: Omniscience, or knowledge of everything (Psalm 139:1-6); Omnipresence, or being everywhere (Psalm 139:7-12); and Omnipotence, or pre-eminence in power (Matthew 28:18, Revelation19:6). God is Holy (Isaiah 6:3; Revelation 4:8), Sovereign (Psalm 33:11, 135:6; Isaiah 46:10; 1 Timothy 6:15), Truth (Psalm 31:5; John 14:6), Just (Psalm 145:17; Acts 3:14), Merciful and Gracious (Exodus 34:6; Psalm 103:8; 1 Peter 5:10), Peace (1 Corinthians 14:33), Good (Psalm 106:1), Love (1 John 4:8-10), and Unchangeable in all His perfections (Psalm 102:25-27; Malachi 3:6; James 1:17).
God the Father is Spirit (John 4:24) and is the Father over all creation (Genesis 1:1), Father of the nation of Israel (Exodus 4:22), Father of the Lord Jesus Christ (Matthew 3:17), and the Father of believers in Christ (Galatians 3:26). God the Father planned our salvation in Christ from the beginning to the praise of His glorious grace (Ephesians 1:4-6) and carried out that plan in the fullness of time by sending His Son (Galatians 4:4-5) to suffer God’s wrath by dying in our place on the cross (Isaiah 53:5-12; Galatians 3:13; 1 Peter 2:24) to accomplish our redemption (Romans 5:18-19; 2 Corinthians 5:21; Hebrews 2:17).
God the Son has always existed (John 1:1), at a point in time became a man, being born of a virgin (Matthew 1:23), but has remained fully God as is evidenced by His sinless life (2 Corinthians 5:21). He died on our behalf, rose bodily on the third day (1 Corinthians 15:3-8), ascended into heaven (Acts 1:9), and will return for His church (1 Thessalonians 4:16). Salvation is only attained through Jesus Christ (John 14:6) who is the Lord of all (Philippians 2:10-11).
God the Holy Spirit glorifies Christ (John 15:26) by convicting of sin, righteousness, judgment, and the need of salvation (John 16:7-14). The Holy Spirit is the source of the believer’s guarantee that he is sealed eternally in redemption (Ephesians 1:13-14; 1 John 4:13). Every believer is indwelt by the Holy Spirit (Romans 8:9), Who equips the body of Christ with a variety of gifts for serving God, one another, and for ministry in this world (Acts 1:8; 1 Corinthians 12; Ephesians 4: 7, 12; 1 Peter 4:10-11).
God is the creator of all things, visible and invisible, and He created all things good and for His glory (Genesis 1:31; John 1:2-3; Colossians 1:16, 3:17; 1 Corinthians 10:31). God fearfully and wonderfully made mankind uniquely in His image; He made them male and female, to rule over His earthly creation, to be fruitful and multiply, and to enjoy God and obey Him (Genesis 1:26-28, 2:15-17; Psalm 16:11, 66:1-2, 111:1; 139:14). Man fell into sin through the temptation of the devil, bringing the curse of sin and death upon all mankind, in which all choose to rebel and sin against God (Genesis 3; Romans 3:10-23, 5:12, 19, 8:7-8). Due to sin, God has justly declared that all men have earned His wrath and condemnation in hell for all eternity (Matthew 13:41-42; John 3:18, 36, 5:18-19; Romans 1:18, 2:5; 9:22).
God has clearly revealed, through His Word, how we can be saved from the punishment for our sin and have eternal life (John 20:31). God, for His glory (Isaiah 43:6-7; Romans 11:32-36; Ephesians 1:3-6; Revelation 1:5-6), has provided the satisfaction for our sin through His Son, Jesus Christ (John 3:16), Who died in our place to atone for our sin (1 Peter 3:18; 1 Timothy 2:5-6) and rose from the dead that we might have life (Romans 8:9, 11). God in His wisdom and sovereignty has determined to draw us, while we were yet sinners, to Himself through the proclamation of the gospel of Christ (Romans 10:14-15), not because of any foreseen merit in us, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace in Christ Jesus (Ephesians 1:3-11, 2:8-10; John 6:35-47, 65; 2 Timothy 1:9).
It is each person’s responsibility to repent, that is to turn away from their sin and rebellion against God (Luke 13:3), and place their faith in Jesus Christ alone as Savior and Lord for salvation (Romans 10:9-10; Acts 16:31; John 1:12-13). God, in His grace and mercy, uses the message of the gospel of Christ and the power of the Holy Spirit to take us from being dead in our sins to being made alive in Christ, also known as being born again (John 1:12-13, 3:3-8; Ephesians 2:1-6; James 1:18; 1 Peter 1:3, 23). As God has spoken in His Word concerning assurance of salvation, believers can have confidence concerning their personal eternal salvation (John 5:24; 1 John 5:11-13). Baptism, by immersion, does not save us, but rather testifies to our conversion through faith in Jesus Christ (Matthew 28:18-20; 1 Peter 3:21). Nearly every account of individual conversion in the book of Acts includes the response of baptism (Acts 8:13, 36, 9:18, 16:15, 33, 18:8).
5. The Church
The Church is the body of Christ, composed of all believers everywhere, with Christ as the Head (Romans 12:4-5, Ephesians 5:23).
Scripture has given us six foundational practices for the maturing of the Church (Acts. 2:42-47, 20:7; Hebrews 10:23-25).
a. Biblical teaching/preaching d. Prayer
b. Fellowship e. Giving
c. Lord’s Supper f. Worship
The autonomous local church should be organized with only qualified leadership (Hebrews 13:7, 17).
Elders, being the spiritual shepherds (Acts 20:28), are to be men who meet the qualifications set forth in Scripture and willing to oversee the church (1 Timothy 3:1-6; Titus 1:7-9; I Peter 5:1-3).
Deacons, being the servants for Christ, work with and under the direction of the elders (Philippians 1:1; Acts 6:1-6). The character of each deacon is to meet the qualifications set forth in Scripture (1 Timothy 3:8-13; Acts 6:3).
The Church should practice two ordinances that are prescribed by Jesus Christ, which testify to our salvation by grace as believers, and proclaim our faith in the redemptive death and resurrection of our Lord:
a. Baptism, by immersion (Mark 1:10; Acts 8:39; Romans 6:1-4).
b. The Lord’s Supper (Matthew 26:26-30; 1 Corinthians 11:23-28).
Our Lord Jesus Christ has commissioned the Church with two responsibilities:
a. Evangelize the world (Matthew 28:18-20; John 15:16; Acts 1:8).
b. Equip the Saints (Acts 20:32; Ephesians 4:11-13; Colossians 2:6-8).
6. The Christian Walk
Each member of the Body of Christ should have a Christian walk that is in accord with the teaching of Scripture. This walk is outlined in Scriptures as:
a. Walk by faith in the Lord Jesus (2 Corinthians 5:7; Ephesians 1:15).
b. Walk in good works (Ephesians 2:10).
c. Walk worthy of our calling (Ephesians 4:1).
d. Walk not as unbelievers walk (Ephesians 4:17).
This is not merely our Christian duty but also our joy (John 15:9-11), for in Christ we have been made new creatures and are freed from both legalism and licentiousness to be slaves of righteousness (2 Corinthians 5:17; Romans 6:16-20, 12:1-2).
7. The Family
God created the family unit beginning in the Garden of Eden with Adam and Eve (Genesis 1:26-28, 2:15-25). God designed the sacred oath of the covenant of marriage to unite one man and one woman for a lifetime (Matthew 19:3-9; Romans 7:2-3; 1 Corinthians 7:1-16; Colossians 3:18-21; Titus 2:3-5). Marriage between a man and a woman is designed by God to reflect the relationship between Christ and His Church (Ephesians 5:22-33); for a man and a woman by covenant to enter into the intimacies of a marriage (Romans 1:18-32; 1 Corinthians 7:8-9; Hebrews 13:4); for a man and woman to procreate (Psalm 127), as God wills, and fill the earth; and by God’s gracious gift, to raise a godly offspring (Ephesians 6:1-4; 2 Timothy 1:3-5). Since God’s design for marriage is a gracious gift to mankind, a means of bringing Himself glory, and a reflection of Christ’s covenant relationship with the Church, God hates divorce (Malachi 2:13-16; Matthew 19:3-11; 1 Corinthians 7:10-15).
Children, from the moment of conception, are gifts and a heritage from the Lord (Psalm 127, 139:13-16). Their lives are to be treasured, protected, and nourished; they are to be raised in the fear and admonition of the Lord (Exodus 21:22-25; Ephesians 6:1-4). Adoption welcomes children into the family unit as full members of the family and, in a unique way, displays the love of God in adopting us as His very own children through Jesus Christ (Galatians 4:4-6; Ephesians 1:3-6; James 1:27).
8. The Christian and the Social Order
God calls believers “light” (exposing the deeds of darkness and shining the Gospel forth) and “salt” (preventing decay and awakening thirst for Christ) in society, being effective through both word and deed (Matthew 5:13-16, Ephesians 5:1-14, Luke 14:34-35). All believers are right in seeking to see the kingdom of God advanced through the truth of God’s Word, the preaching of the gospel, and the making of disciples (Isaiah 58:1; Matthew 10:27-28, 28:18-20), in order that the will of Christ would be rightly established in our hearts as well as to the ends of the earth (Exodus 20:3-17; Micah 6:8; Isaiah 49:6; Acts 1:8; 13:47; Romans 1:16). We should therefore support what is right and oppose sin in every form as taught by God’s Word and as modeled by our loving Savior who sought to glorify God and reach the lost with truth and grace (Luke 10:27-37; John 1:14-17; James 1:27; Romans 1:17-32; 1 Corinthians 5:9-10, 6:9-11; Galatians 5:16-26). We submit to those the Lord has placed in authority over us, in as far as they do not require us to sin against our Lord or our conscience (Daniel 3; Acts 5:27-32; Romans 13:1-7; 1 Peter 2:17-25, 3:12-18).
All human life is sacred, created by God in His image and is of inestimable worth in every dimension, including the pre-born baby, the physically or mentally challenged, and the aged, through every stage or condition from conception through natural death. We are therefore called to defend, protect, speak up for and value all innocent life (Exodus 20:12; Psalm 139; Proverbs 6:16-19, 31:8-9; Ephesians 5:11-13). We oppose the shedding of innocent blood in all forms, including abortion and euthanasia which are murder, and we support and labor for God’s justice desiring abolition of these sinful practices (Exodus 20:13, 21:22-25; Proverbs 6:16-19, 31:9; Isaiah 1:16-17, 59:1-4, 8-15; Zechariah 8:16; Matthew 5:21-22; 1 John 3:10-12). We also affirm the God-given right of governing authorities to bear the sword judiciously, including the judicial use of the death penalty, in order to punish evil (Romans 13:3-4).
Since God wonderfully and immutably creates each person as male or female and these two distinct, complementary genders together reflect the image and nature of God, to reject one’s biological sex is a rejection of the image of God within that person (Genesis 1:26-27). Since God designed the intimacies of marriage to occur exclusively between a man and a woman who are married to each other, all forms of sexual immorality in thought, word, or deed - including adultery, fornication, homosexual behavior, bisexual conduct, bestiality, incest, and use of pornography - are sinful and offensive to God (1 Corinthians 6:18, 7:2-5; Hebrews 13:4; Matthew 5:27-30, 15:18-20; 1 Corinthians 6:9-10; Colossians 3:8; Ephesians 5:4).
9. Ministry & Cooperation:
Uniting in gospel ministry with other believers, churches, or religious organizations is appropriate for furthering the gospel of Jesus Christ, as long as there is unity in doctrinal essentials as described herein and there is no compromise of conscience or to God and His Word (1 Corinthians 10:1-17, 3:5-15).
In order to preserve the function and integrity of Grace Christian Fellowship Church as a local church body of Christ, and to provide a biblical role model to our church body and the community, it is imperative that all persons employed by our church body in any capacity, or who serve as volunteers, agree to and abide by our Statement of Faith (Matthew 5:16; Philippians 2:14-16; 1 Thessalonians 5:22).
10. Last Days
At the Father’s appointed time, Jesus will personally and visibly return to the earth (Matthew 24:27-36, 44, 26:64; Luke 21:27-28; Acts 1:11; Titus 2:13), the dead will be raised (John 5:28-29; Acts 24:15; 1 Thessalonians 4:14-18), and Jesus will bring all people before Himself for judgment (Matthew 25:31-36; Acts 17:31; Romans 14:10; Hebrews 9:27-28). The unrighteous will be cast into hell, a place of everlasting torment (Mark 9:43-48; 2 Thessalonians 1:7-12), with the devil and his angels, while believers will receive their glorified bodies and live forever with the Lord (Luke 12:40-48; John 14:1-3; 2 Corinthians 5:10; Philippians 3:20; Colossians 1:5, 3:4). God, at His perfectly appointed time and ordering, will fulfill all of His Holy Word and promises in heaven, on the earth, and to all His covenant people (Genesis 3:15; Psalm 33:11, 135:6; Proverbs 19:21; Isaiah 46:9-11; Acts 3:25; Romans 9-11; Hebrews 6:17-18; Revelation 21-22).
11. Final Authority for Matters of Belief and Conduct
This statement of faith does not exhaust the extent of our beliefs, but rather summarizes key and pertinent aspects. The Bible, as the inspired and inerrant Word of God speaks with final authority concerning truth, morality, and the proper conduct of mankind, and is the sole and final source of all that we believe (Psalm 119:103-105; Romans 15:4; 2 Timothy 3:16-17; 2 Peter 1:19-21; Hebrews 1:1-3). For purposes of Grace Christian Fellowship Church’s faith, doctrine, practice, policy, and discipline, our Elders responsibly and humbly serve as our shepherds and overseers concerning the teaching and handling of the Scripture’s meaning and application within the church body (Nehemiah 8:8; Acts 20:28-32; 1 Timothy 3:1-7, 4:13-16; Titus 1:5-9; 1 Peter 5:1-5).
